Our team had the opportunity to make a short presentation and report on internships of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on actual changes in legislation on domestic violence on February, 20, 2020.
It was a pleasure to chat with colleagues, including lawyers.
Yaryna Voloshyn, “JurFem” Project Manager, presented the activities of the organization and the main areas we are currently working on.
Solomia Kalyniv, an intern of JurFem, spoke about major changes in the current legislation of Ukraine concerning women’s rights, in particular in the direction of domestic violence.
Most of the issues in the discussion concerned the implementation of change, especially in small communities. Domestic violence, for example, is more vocal in large cities, where prevention campaigns are often carried out both in educational institutions and on the streets, while in smaller cities those responsible for implementation do not understand the root of the problem.
At the same time, we agreed that the threat of becoming a victim of domestic violence was not necessarily linked to the person’s social and material status.
We hope that our information has been useful and we look forward to seeing you at our events.
