In 2012, Ukraine ratified the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Abuse and Sexual Exploitation (hereinafter – the Convention, the Lanzarote Convention). It means that Ukraine has committed itself to bringing the national legislation into line with the provisions of the Convention. The main novelties in the field of protection of children from sexual violence provided by the Convention are, in particular, the criminalization of the review of materials of sexual violence against children; introduction of the concept of grooming, expanding the concept of “child abuse”. The aim of such innovations are to protect children from sexual violence and create a legal framework that will promote this goal. In this analytical review, we will consider the above provisions in more detail.
